We were just talking about you on one of our outings. We thought you'd gone deep-sea fishing or something like that.
Well taken shots. I like the Acraea in particular. Must be common over there in Taiwan.
Ben Jin, since you're heading out there soon, perhaps you can ask Nelson for the good shooting spots. :)

Haha, I have gone into hibernation. :bsmile: :bsmile:
Yea, the Acrea is quite common in Taiwan. But apparently it has not been raining in Taiwan for the past few months and the waterfall has dried up. Thus did not met up with many Jewels during my trip there. :D
Good job. Appears you had a fruitfl visit there! William
Thanks William, the trip was both fruitful and enjoyable. :D

Nelson & all: I'll be heading off for Europe on Friday for about 3 weeks. This is supposed to be a vacation -- per instructions from my wife -- http://www.butterflycircle.com/forums/images/smilies/police.gif and not a photography assignment, so I've been told not to spend too much time taking photos. I will, however, pack along my 70-180mm macro ... just in case. I'm not much for doing the "Tourist" tours and would be just as happy in a public garden taking photos of butterflies. In any event, I will be out of touch until the second week of June. William

The below three silverline shots are from three different butterflies from three different location. According to Taiwan butterfly list, three Spindasis can be found in Taiwan, namely Spindasis lohita formosana, Spindasis syama & spindasis kuyaniaus.
Most probably the below three are either Spindasis lohita formosana or spindasis kuyaniaus.

On the last batch of photos: based on the book which Li Phing kindly bought for us, I think the first butterfly is Papilio bianor thrasymedes. The peacock looking butterfly is Papilio hermosanus. Both the second and the third photo are the same butterfly just that the second is more pristine. The book makes a distinction between hermosanus and its close-looking nakaharai. The latter's underside shows less distinct red post-discal markings as compared to hermosanus:

Papilio hermosanus (3) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/92639059@N00/5775052944/) by garnet_mermaid (http://www.flickr.com/people/92639059@N00/), on Flickr
As for the silverlines, I managed to scrounge up the three different ones from the two books (the 280 species bought from Taiwan and the common butterflies of Taiwan from Li Phing): Spindasis lohita formosana, Spindasis syama and Spindasis kuyanianus. From the description they look completely different except at first glance syama and formosana look almost alike except that the latter has much thicker lines across the body and the three discal spots on the hindwing underside are connected. Formosana also has a queer line extending from the tail into the orange tornal area on the hindwing.
I'm just guessing based on the info in these books. :)
