The second site, very close to Chiang Mai town, but interesting, inside the Doi Suthep National Park.
Sharing the holiday with my family, I can visit the location just a couple of hour a day for 2 days :-(
A few interesting (for me) butterflies.

Fantastic diversity of species!
The Lance Sergeant in post #2 looks more like one of the Neptis. Can you check again with your newly acquired book by Pisuth? :)

Once again, a fascinating number of species, and from so little time! There are several that I only know from one or at most two photos on the net, e.g. Athyma zeroca galaesus (Small Staff Sergeant), and your photos are, by far, the best.
I agree with SK about the Neptis sp. I note that the cell streak and triangle appear somewhat sullied, a distinguishing feature for Neptis clinia susrata. If you managed an underside, the two are more or less connected with this species, less so on the upperside.
I also have problems regarding the Charaxes sp. I suspect it is Charaxes aristogiton aristogiton (Scarce Tawny Rajah).

Of course you're right :embrass:
Checking which Sailor is it!

Hi Les, thank you for the input! This pic of the upperside of the Rajah could be of some help:

The Neptis should be the clinia.
We definitely should organize a trip in North Thailand! So rich and beautiful!

Thanks for the upperside. Definitely not the Variegated Rajah (Charaxes kahruba). There is also Charaxes marmax marmax (Yellow Rajah) to consider. I had started wondering after I had posted. They are very similar.
Aristogiton is around the same size as bernadus, marmax is smaller. Being unable to tell size from photos, my bet would be on aristogiton, it usually only has 2 subapical forewing spots, whereas marmax usually has three.

I did a check on the underside of the Rajah & it should be C. kahruba.
The dark discal band on the hindwing does not continue broadly to the costa as in C. aristogiton, but suffers a deep inward cut on the outer margin in space 8.
C. kahruba in Yutaka

No image of aristogiton in Yutaka, but here are two from other sources.

This from Thailand.

TL Seow:cheers:
PS. Actually C. aristogiton also has a deep outer indentation of the discal band in space 8 but space 8 is so narrow that the margin appeared to reach the costa broadly.
Here is another example.
http://www.thaibugs.com/wp-content/gallery/charaxinae/Charaxes-aristogiton1.jpg
PS2 . A recheck. Oops ! It is correctly C. aristogiton.
The discal band have a truncated projection directed towards space 3/4 (in the direction of the tail) in C. kahruba. In aristogiton this projection is rounded.
C. kahruba. Note forewing band have a similar projection in space 3.
