It was an enjoyable trip for the six of us who went to Cameron Highlands and back safely! Though the butterfly activity was not too exciting, most of us came back with some pluses, besides the Gigs of the Purple Sapphire, which was the signature species for Camerons. We wrapped the Camerons trip with visits at the start and end, to our favourite Gua Tempurung, which never fails to satisfy.
So here's a start to the outing, and let's look forward to the awesome posts from Sunny, Chng, Loke, CJ and Nona soon!
For a start, here's a shot of the Blue Posy (Drupadia scaeva scaeva) from Gua Tempurung. Apologies for the wrong ID earlier. :embrass: This is not one of the "Spark" species. Chng shot it again at the last visit to Gua Tempurung too, and it was opening its wings to sunbathe, but scooted off before we could shoot its upperside. ;P

Thanks Les. Too bad it was not a pristine one. Maybe you can help me to nail down the ID of this Sunbeam below :
All 3 below were shot in the Butterfly Park in Cameron. It was really sad to see that most of the butterflies inside were half dead, waiting to die.

It is Curetis regula.
No black dots; black -banded legs; Postdiscal band regular, without the indentation or protrusion seen in other species.
Les, you can actually use this one to compare with the Danum Curetis.

The Malayan Birdwing is a male and what a magnificent individual with clear yellow forewing vein-stripes.
Most seen have the vein-stripes not so clear & so marring the general appearance.

When we first reached the Mossy Forest, it was cold, windy, and misty. The altitude is more than 6000ft.
See video below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKVGXJ1iS6E
The least expected was to see a butterfly. And this species was seen zipping around in high speed, engaging in dog fight and oblivious to cold and crowds.

The female Malayan Birdwing, apart from the large conjoined black spots on the HW, have the FW brown (not black), & the lower vein-stripes very short so that the dark area is a square.
Post 42.
Hasora mus pahanga is restricted to high altitudes, strange for a cold-blooded creature , & resembles a little guy in a fur coat.
It also probably looks lke a small mouse zipping about. ( mus = Latin for mouse.) Its name translates as Pahang mouse.

Because of poor connectivity I didn't manage to see the pic earlier, but presumed it was the Malayan Batwing.
Now that the pic is visible, it is the male 'Common Batwing' Atrophaneura varuna varuna. (common in Thailand).
The HW margin is scalloped ; there is a whitish area on the FW tornus; abdomen with red marks.

Agree with Seow on the Batwing.
Also in post #50, the Map is Cyrestis maenalis martini (no idea of common name!), the montane specialist.
Even further, be prepared to change the Celaenorrhinus aurivittatus cameroni to Celaenorrhinus cameroni. There was a recent paper which outlined the reasons for the upgrade to specific status, but I have not read it though I believe there is some slight sympatry in Vietnam between C. aurivittatus aurivittatus and cameroni. I am keeping the old name for the time being on my site, whilst noting the possible change (too lazy to do any more about it at the moment!).
