Male Nacaduba berenice icena.

In the Darnum Valley posting are links to examples of the 4 species of 6-line blues.

I 'll show another four males.

Male N. berenice.
FW postdiscal band's dark striae strong; submarginal spots not forming a neat band , with stepped irregular inner margins; spot 4 & 5 often pointed.
FW marginal spots flat-sided (not bulging) ; Hw marginal spot 3 flattened.

Male N. calauria.
FW postdiscal band's dark striae strong; submarginal spots not forming a band usually , inner margins irregular, spots 4 & 5 often pointed.
FW marginal spots large & bulging; HW marginal spot 3 rounded; spots often rather dark.

Male N. kurava.
FW potdiscal band's dark striae prominent; submarginal spots form a neat band, inner margins rounded/regular; spots 4 & 5 usually rounded.
Marginal spots rather flat; HW postdiscal spot 6 large , usually quadrate.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b118/NickySteel/Nacaduba-berenice-icena-Ro.jpg

Male N. beroe.
FW postdiscal band's dark striae weak or obsolete; submarginal spots band-like variable width, lower spots slab -like (rectangular) with flared edges.
Marginal spots rather flat; wingbases darkened.(note example below not distinct.)

TL Seow:cheers:
PS. Many examples may be intermediate in appearance & hard to ID.
It is good to try and get an uppershot even if it is blurry. The upperside colour may help.

I did notice a few other Nacaduba sp's puddling too. Unfortunately, they were too skittish.

Post 7.

No. 1. This is one of those intermediate form which is very confusing.
You can see the FW submarginal spots are almost band-like.
In the past I have ID'ed similar ones as an N. kurava male but I now believe this is an N. berenice variant.

N. berenice is quite variable & the submarginal spots may be narrow( easy to ID ) or relatively broad as here.

The inner margin is not so regular or rounded as in N. kurava, in particular submarginal spots 4 & 5 are pointed in the middle (upper three spots are 4 ,5, & 6.)

Federick's N. kurava shows FW submarginal spots 4 & 5 with rounded margins; HW spot 6 large & quadrate (squarish).

LC shot of another kurava male.
http://m7.i.pbase.com/g1/25/686825/2/131962157.aU9kgK7D.jpg

No. 2. This is more typical N. berenice except the marginal spots are a little more bulging.

TL Seow:cheers:
PS. Examples of N. kurava males in which the FW submarginal band is narrow. They are from India & HK.

It is Pelopidas conjunctus.

It is a large species. The fat abdomen (pic. 2) suggest a female, but both sexes have a spot in space 1b, a 2nd much smaller one sometimes present.
The two cellspots are large but do not touch (touch in P. assamensis).
The spots on the upperside are distinctly yellow (pic. 2) ,( white in P. assamensis ).

Post 19.

1 & 3.
Typical Males Nacaduba berenice.
Note the marginal & submarginal spots are pale, narrow, & poorly defined.

2. Male Nacaduba calauria. A good example.
Note the peripheral spots are dark; the marginal spots bulgong ; the submarginals irregular & do not form a band.

4. Female Telicota colon. Very worn.
Note FW spot 5 is situated farther out from spot 4 ,margins concave; spot 4 with little overlap with spot 3 (mostly hidden by the HW.)

Another Telicota (?) Should be a female. I observed this fella ovipositing.

1. Telicota colon female.
Note FW upperside with spots staggered; shape of spot 5, strongly concave outer margins of spots.

2. Ypthima pandocus.
Y. pandocus only one with a single large spot in HW space 2 (excluding the small tornal spot in space 1b)
Y. baldus, horsfieldii, & fasciata have two.
Y. huebneri have 2, but spot 3 sometmes tiny; small size, upperside ground colour even (ie wihtout the strong striation seen in the others).

This appeared to be the male Telicota linna.
The HW band is lighted by a shine-through effect & so it is useless as an aid in ID'ing it.
Note the lowest FW big spot seen here is spot 2 & space 2 running inwards to the base is black all the way. (vein 3 is above this space.)

In the males of T. augias, colon & besta the base of space 2 is shaded with orange.
Telicota male.

In the males of T. linna & ohara the base of space 2 is black & not shaded orange. T. ohara have dark shadings around the margins of the spots/band.

Yes, it does looks like the male T.ohara.

The veins are not darkened across the HW band.
There are a lot of darkish shading around the HW band & FW spots.
You can compare with the male augias which has a 'clean' look in the other thread.

It is Lasippa tiga siaka.

The triangular submarginal spot in FW space 3 if viewed sideway is already twice the height of the adjacent spots.
It is less than 1 1/2 x that of the adjacent spots in L. heliodore.
