Are these two Mycalesis perseus?
I have been monitoring this group of Bush Browns for a while, and I would like to confirm the species ID.

Yes, they are both M. perseus.
For a moment, I thought there was a possibility of M. horsfieldi.
Note on the HW the submarginal stria & the ocelli are close together in the upper half but open up to form a gap in the lower half.
Often in M. perseus the FW spots form an arc, but not here.

Thanks, Dr Seow for the confirmation. :)
BTW, what are the characteristic features of M. horsfieldi which we should look out for?

Mycalesis horsfieldi.
The striae are not broadly whitened like in perseoides /visala . ie similar to perseus/mineus.
HW lower 4 spots more or less in line.
FW with several spots & always one in space 1b.
Upperside FW ocellus rather obscure.
Overall like perseoides without the extensive white & the 'tooth' in the dark discal line.
Common in the East coast islands eg Tioman.
M. horsfieldi Java.

TL Seow: Cheers.
