A long deviation on my way back home from Chiang Mai, to a remote waterfall not far from the Western Thai-Myanmar border in the famous region of Kanchanaburi, West Thailand.

I was looking for the very rare and localized Godfrey's Junglequeen (Stichophtalma godfreyi) and possibly find the subspecies mathilda of the less rare Stichophtalma luisa.

Main camera body broken, have to use the spare one, wet environment, I slipped and crashed down twice, very thick bamboo forest but, when almost afternoon, I got record shots of both species:

The beautiful upperside

And a beautiful uncommon Satyrinae:

It was well worth the detour of almost 800 Km for that!

Beautiful. Dorsal shots of live Stichophthalma are very rare.
