View Full Version : Request for ID - Suffused Flash or Scarlet Flash?

Dear Dr Seow,
Is this a Suffused Flash (Rapala suffusa barthema) or Scarlet Flash (Rapala dieneces dieneces)? How do we tell them apart? The photo was taken at Upper Seletar Reservoir.

It is Rapala dieneces male.
In R dieneces, suffusa & cowani, the HW postdiscal band forms an arch or dome in space 1b (whre the speckled patch is)
R. dieneces. UN more brown ,female may be yellowish. FW band fairly straight ;HW orange crown often better defined.

R. suffusa. often strongly chrome yellow; FW band curved in ,or strongly bent; HW orange crown vague.

R. cowani Un strongly grey.
The female Rapala manea is often confused with R. dieneces.
HW postdiscal band in space 1b mostly straight & slanted. orange crown well-defined.
