Two Spindasis butterflies, different individuals, both photographed in Nan province, n. Thailand. I find the very buff basal colouration and red (not black) bands quite different to the usual colouration of S. syama found in northern Thailand, which almost always have black bands on white or cream background.
An internet search shows quite some variation across this species's range. However, I wonder if I am overlooking something?
The colouration is rather like the rare S. rukma, though the banding is slightly different, or also like Spindasis evansi ayuthia.
Grateful for comments on the variability and colouration of these individuals.
