View Full Version : Help with Butterfly IDs

Hello! Is anyone able to help me ID some of these species please? For the third photo, I thought it was a Slate Flash based on upperwing colouring, but the patterns on the underside look more like Red Flash. The second looks like Ancyra Blue and the fourth like Common Caerulean, but I'm not sure.

1. Pelopidas likely P. mathias.


2. Catopyrops ancyra . Ancyra Blue.

3 Rapala. iarbus female ,Common Red Flash.
The pale greyish underside & orange-tinged cilia are characteristic.

3. Feamle R. manea ,Slate Flash.

4. Jamides celeno .Common Caerulean.

5. Borbo cinnara, Formosan Swift.


6. You seem to have a rarity here.
Probably Caltoris cahira ,sometimes called the Colon Swift.

The underside HW is much darker( almost blackish)than the FW; FW spots are whitish.
Female Singapore.

Baoris farri have uniform fore & hind wings.
The spots are yellowish.

Thanks very much, this was helpful! C. cahira doesn't seem to be in the Singapore checklist though, is this a visitor, or only discovered recently?

There are only a few shots of this species.
The best is the female shown.
Your shot can not be confirmed with certainty.
