View Full Version : An odd Neptis from n Thailand

I photographed this at 1,200 metres in northern Thailand last week. I cannot match it to any Neptis species I have seen here. It has been suggested that this could be Neptis leucoporos, which is about as close as I can match, but some features do not match fully other images I have of that species from southern Thailand. Neptis leucoporos would be rather rare in the north.
This individual was a notably large specimen for a Neptis.
Any suggestions welcomed please. With thanks.

Neptis soma shania.
Female probably DSF.

N. soma is readily recognised by the submarginal spots at the FW apex being strongly bent inwards to the costa.
The HW discal band widens towards the upper margin (costa), more obvious in the male.
The female have the HW discal band with the veins darkened.
