Male palpi half whit; female palpi 2/3 black.

Abdominal end yellow ;Underside lightly dark shaded. Veins variably dark dusted both upper & under sides.

Similar with abdominal end yellow.
Deeper orange colour with heavier shading.
Veins not or barely dark dusted (difference more distinct on UpH.

5. Potanthus trachala.
Although not perfect, the view is sufficient to ID. P. trachala in Singapore.

These two are much confused in the past.

Rapala suffusa female ; Strongly yellow.
FW postdiscal band curved in to the costa.
HW orange crown around the black spot yellow & merges into the ground colour.

Rapala dieneces female. Ground colour brownisn to ochreous.
FW postdiscal band straight or nearly so.
HW with the orange crown around the black spot distinctly orange & contrast with the yellow shading.

The female of Rapala damona is uncertain but as the male is a deep orange brown the probable female may be deduced thus.

7. Jamides celeno.

Although the male's exposed FW suggest J. pura. the dark shading indicate there is a dark border , less developed.

J. pura in Sundaland have the HW balck spot with prominent long silvery side bars.

8. Telicota besta male.


Telicota can be very difficult. A shift in the angle of light renders the colour tone hard to judge.


T. augias. Male ;Uniformly deep orange including face & abdomen. Veins in male not dark dusted.

T. colon male; FW spots staggered in a stepladder arrangement. Veins may be lightly darkened. Face slightly paler.

T. linna; male Duller , veins not dark-dusted.
Face & lower part of abdomen paler but may be hard to see the abdomen.

Only the face is paler.
