1. male ,2 female Ypthima newara.
The ground colour in female Ypthima is paler & the markings more contrasted.
The two species Y. nareda & newara have been much confused.
Bear in mind intermediates are likely to occur.
Following Evans' description closely.
Ypthima nareda.
UnF dark submarginal fascia widens midway down to the tornus.
UnH apical ocellus smaller than the UnF ocellus.

3. Female Ionolyce helicon.
Like Nacaduba beroe, I. helicon have no costal spot above the innermost FW band.
The female with broader wings is easily confused with N. beroe.
The FW postdiscal band is often serially dislocated, ie. at every vein crossing.

4 & 5 . Koruthaialos rubecula cachara.
Ssp. cachara in India is very variable.
The male is largely brown & the female with red traces although red-banded forms also occur.
Ssp hector & rubecula in SE Asia & Sundaland are mostly red banded.
Previous discussion with the forms in SE Asia may have confused the picture.
In K. rubecula the 3rd segment of the labialpalps (palpi) is elongate ( like an inverted icecream cone)
In the related K. sindu (always red-banded) it is a very short conical knob.
K. rubecula cachara. showing longer palpi 3rd segment.

The red band when present tapers (narrows) at the tornus.

K. sindu have the palpi 3rd segment very short & knob-like.
