Celaenorrhinus for ID

Hello, Dr. Seow sir

I had this Celaenorrhinus from Meghalaya. The spotting looks very unusual (may be variation too) for Celaenorrhinus leucocera and I am unable to decide on a species.

Please help me identify this UFO.

Is there any possibility of this being Celaenorrhinus fusca?

It should be C. leucocera. Correction: More likely C. maculicornis.;UpH is is unmarked. Correction 2: Female C. leucocera.

Following Evans' key.

1a UpF central spots/band.
1b Spots/band white.
12a (1c) No pale/or dark spot in space 1b basally.
12b ( 19a) FW cellspot midway between apex & base.
15a (12c) Antennal shaft nit chequered.
15b (17a) Wings not produced FW dorsum > termen.
16 (15) Abdomen unstriped. UpF cellspot generally continued above radius.

C. fusca have aq large dark spot in space 1b near the base .. Evans' key 1c.

PS. Key line 19a is inprecise . UpF cellspot distinctly nearer apex than base. UpH plain or obscurely marked.
19b UpF cellspot continued to costa.

This leads to C. munda & maculicornis.
Images of both species do not show UpF cellspot nearer the apex.

C. maculicornis (NE India) is a possibility.

Revision.

C. leucoceras is widespread across the Himalayan foothills from Murree to Arunachal.
The descibed forms are very variable ,WSF with HW spots & DSF with a single cellend spot.
HW spots may be quite obscure.
Male antenna white above, female with club white, & shaft dark.



C, maculicornis ( = spotted horns) have the antennal shaft speckled black & white in the male.
Yhe female is undescribed.
This one below appears to be the female, the FWs may be distorted by being slightly held up.
The HWs are rounded compared to the angular ones in the male & the abdomen is more bulging. Note antennal shaft is also speckled.

C. maculicornis as with C. munda typically have two spots in FW space 1b.


All these indicate that the UFO is a female C. leucocera.

C. leucocera seems to be vey variable and a I must keep my full attention in future sightings. Thank you so much for the guidance and information.
