Good evening Dr. Seow Sir

This male looks very interesting...
HW band & cellend bar close in this individual...forewing band also looks angled.
Is it Rapla scintilla?

This is a fairly typical Rapala varuna male.

The three species can be confused particularly in India where the individual variations are very wide.

Rapala varuna.
Male upperside indigo or steely blue, no reflective blue iridescence. ; female duller.
Underside often with a purple wash & bands broad.
UnF postdiscal band broad & double white edged.
UnH postdiscal band in space 1b an arch.
Speckled patch small.
Tornal black spot often rounded & orange ring more encircling.
Postdiscal band & cellend bar very close ,often touching.

Rapala manea.
Male upperside with blue-shot patches on both FW & HW.
Female dul purple brown.
UnH may be lightly purple-washed.
UnF postdiscal band narrower & white -edged on the outside.
UnH postdiscal band in space 1b a straight slant.
UnH postdiscal band & cellend bar well separated.
Speckled patch in space 1b typically large.

Rapala scintilla.
Male upperside with only a blueshot patch on the HW.
Female largely brownish.
Underside light, ochreous/gtey, sometimes greenish.
UnF postdiscal band narrow & white-edged on the outer margin.
UnH postdiscal band & cellend bar close (near to varuna.)
Postdiscal band in space 1b more or less a straight slant (as in manea.)

Rapala scintilla is largely overlooked as it is very difficult to ID from fieldshots.
