Having the distinction of one of the largest moths in the world, the Atlas Moth, is indeed a large insect, and when it flies, it looks more like a giant bat. We encountered this relatively pristine female at Ubin's Butterfly Hill this morning, and spent quite a lot of time shooting it. So much so that both CP and Federick ran out of ammo by the time we went to the coconut plantation area. ;P Most shots coming of the Atlas Moth... :jumjoy:

Two more detailed shots of the Atlas Moth.
Note the feathery antennae. The male's antennae are even larger and more extensive.
The wingtip is supposed to resemble a snake's head to scare off would-be predators. Do you think it would scare off anything?

Ha ha... the power of visual illusion eh? That's the wings lah... look carefully at the colour and then compare it with the overall shot. :-)
