Just to put in our little forum diary that most of us have observed a season of rather low butterfly activity in Singapore. I can't really say when it started but I recall some time in Aug to Sep 06.

It's just a general comment, as most of us do not do "count surveys" to ascertain numbers for comparison. It may be useful to do so, but tedious.

Whilst there appears to be fewer butterflies during these few months, a couple of surprises were encountered in the urban parks, namely the White Royal (Pratapa deva relata) and a probably migrant Painted Lady, both shot at TBHP.

Interesting times. Anyone wants to pound the Ubin trails and look for new/migrant species coming from up north? :)

I visited the sensory trail and the butterfly hill yesterday (26-9-06). Butterflies spotted along the trails include club banded silverline, great eggfly, bush browns, common blue bottle, common mormon, silver forget-me-not, and some skippers I could not identify (I will post later in the newbie forum for ID help). At the butterfly hill, there are big colonies of pea blues and plain tigers at the windy hill top. Ubin is definitely more fruitful for butterfly ``hunting'' compared to MNT, TBHP, MF for me.

Been to northern side of SG last Sep 27 and manage to capture BBSL (M/F), Peablue and Gram Blue.
A lot of Yellows flying around, Blue Pansy, Grass Blues, spotted CM, Birdwing, Mormons, etc..etc..
There are also a lot of Moths.
Manage to capture a mating pair which looks like Plain Tiger.

Think this will be soon a good Butt hunting ground.
