After taking a look at Federick's shot today (http://b-pals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4991), and recalling what Horace had shot earlier (http://b-pals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4719&) in Jan 2007, it's quite certain that this species, Gangara lebadea lebadea (or what is referred to as the Banded Redeye in Michael van der Poorten's Sri Lankan site (http://www.srilankaninsects.net/Butterflies/MainPage/ButterfliesMain.htm)) has been re-discovered in Singapore. :gbounce:
Recorded as extant in Singapore in the C&P4 checklist, this species has thus far been either mistaken for one of the Erionota spp. or one of the larger fast-flying Hesperiidae which are not easy to photograph properly in the shady understorey of the forested areas.
But taking a look a both available shots now, I'm quite convinced that Horace's earlier shot was not a variable specimen of the Erionota. So here we have species #279 in the checklist, thanks to Horace for re-discovering it, and Federick for confirming it again.
Anyone for #280? :)
