At Gopeng, we were lucky to see all three of the Bassarona species. B. dunya is well known to me so I did not bother to take any further photos, but the others....
The first two are the female of the rare Bassarona recta monilis (The Red-Spot Marquis)
The second two were, I thought originally, the male of the same species. However, since I got home, and was able to look at the photos better, it is obvious that they are photos of the male of Bassarona teuta goodrichi (The Banded Marquis). I believe that there was an unidentified female flying around at the same time as I saw this male, and I am not sure if LC managed a photo of it. It may turn out to be the female of this ssp.

I was about to ask you regarding the male butt. At first I thought it was B.teuta rayana. :bsmile:
My shots are as good as yours and i didn't shoot the female. I will definitely think that it is Euthalia species. :bsmile:

I believe B. t. rayana is only known from Lankawi and neighbouring islands.

Ahem... you are not suppose to find it in South of Ipoh too. :bsmile:

Actually, it is Ipoh District for the B. recta. Is Gopeng in that District?:prrr:
For everyone else, when we found the B. recta at Gopeng, I informed LC that it had not previously been found South of Ipoh, when I should have said 'Ipoh District'.

Yes Sunny, definitely not B. recta (no red spot at the tornal area of hindwing, and the last costal forewing spot is out of line). As far as the ssp. of B. teuta is concerned, according to current literature, your ID is correct, but it is far easier to ID the ssp. via the females.
Bassarona teuta is a species I have been looking at for a long time. I first thought that I may have found a new ssp. on Samui, then I thought not, now I am not so sure again. I need expert advice, and am collating the appropriate evidence.

Easiest way to tell them apart is by looking at the spots. If they're all aligned, it's recta, bt if the top-most one is dislocated, it's teuta.
