Went back today to try to get an upperside shot of the Black-Spooted Grass Blue (Famegana alsulus) as it was actually sunny yesterday morning. Yet another failure.

HOWEVER, amongst some Danaus melanippus, there appeared one that was different. It turned out to be a female Malay Tiger (Danaus affinis malayanus). Unfortunately it was on private land surrounded by a large amount of barbed wire populated by Weaver ants (you know my fear of these buggers!). These are long distance shots, heavily cropped, so sorry for the quality.

Also, I found this mating pair of a Ypthima species. Unless it is an optical illusion, it looks rather different to my normal two species. Am I just being hopeful or is it something other than Ypthima heubneri?

The Malay Tiger is a Mangrove specialist. I only accidentaly came across this small area of Mangrove plants. To be honest, I did not think that the amount of Mangrove on the Island was large enough to keep a population of this species. (Hence the surprise.)
