Spotted these two moths that looked the same but different colours. Anyone knows their ID? Thanks.

Erebidae, Erebinae - Hypopyra sp.

which species they are will depend upon what colour they are on the ventral surface: Hypopyra vespertilio is red underneath, whilst H. ossigera is yellow underneath. There are also very slight differences between the two in wing shape. The dorsal markings are very similar in overall pattern in both species, though equally variable in the amount of colouration (degree of melanism) in parts of the pattern.
Based on wing shape, I suspect these are both H. vespertilio. Did you get to see any of the underside?

cheers,

Roger.

Thanks Roger for the info. Unfortunately I don't get to see the underside. Now that you have mentioned, I will be more aware next time when I see them.
