Beautiful shots!

That does look like a Charaxes bernardus crepax as far as I can tell from C&P4 and previous shots.

A bit confused with C.distanti. Ok then,I will take it as C.bernardus crepax.

Great shots!
Where was the great orange tip found? So strange to see it in jungle-like settings.

Looks like a good spot! Marked down for my next trip to KL!:grin2:

I agree with your ID for the Notocrypta clavata clavata. Did it appear larger than the commoner N. paralysos? Also you have the Tagiades sp. correct.

The Halpe species is, I am pretty sure, Halpe zema zamba.

What was that white and red one mentioned by Kurt? I can't think of any!

Near the river but won't stop for me to take a good shot.

Yes, but I am not breeding it unless I have time to collect the young leaves.

Also, saw a couple of female Chocalate Albatross laying eggs. Didn't collect the eggs too.

Sure, it looks like a good hunting ground but just that too many visitor during week end.

The Notocrypta clavata clavata is a bit big compared to other regular skippers.

The white, red, black & yellow butt is as mentioned by Khew above.

Thanks also for the IDs.

I paid several visits to the same location. If I am not wrong, now under Selangor State Park? The place covers comparatively large area of primary forest with thick under growth at some localities, and the "River Tua" running along the forest edge. It is an excellent hunting ground for butterfly enthusiasts. You will discover different species in the morning, afternoon and dusk which are not in your present list: e.g.
Amblypodia narada taooana
Catopsilia pomona pomona f-catilla
Erites angularis angularis (in deep forest)
Graphium bathycles bathycloides
Graphium chironides malayanus
Jamides philatus subditus
Laringa castelnaui castelnaui
Miletus gopara gopara
Rhinopalpa polynice eudoxia
Poritia sumatrae sumatrae
Zeuxidia aurelius aurelias

There are many common species like Cyrestis nivea nivalis, Arhopala perimuta regina, Notocrypta paralysos varians, Graphium evemon eventus, Pathysa antiphates itamputi .... will be encountered too.

Have you been to Sendat waterfalls - nearby to S. Tua?
Good luck for your future visits!

Thanks for the info. Sungai Tua is a good place for butteflying but crowded with people during weekend.

I have not been to Sendat waterfall. Will take a look next time I go there. Won't be long though...

Hi Mr Loh,

Sungai Tua - Lot of mosquitoes in deep forest.
Sendat waterfall - The best location is enter from the pathway beside the waterfall and up the hill, but beware of leech!

If you have any good locations near to KL or Genting Highlands, can you please indicate to me.

Sure. Bukit Tinggi is a nice place too, but not many butts. probably the time I went was clouded and raining.

Awana is another good place, I have been there once but not for butterflying. I saw quite a number of new butts. I will go there one day.

Janda Baik is another place you should go, especially near the river there. I have been there once too.

Bkt Tinggi is great for big beetles and some rare bugs like mantisfly. I haven't seen the mantisfly myself but i know someone shot one there...grrr:D

Also lots of moths.

Awana, my last trip there, saw a family of gibbons/siamang (the same?)..very friendly and not afraid of human. I shot some with my Sigma150:D

Janda Baik is at the bottom of Genting but opposite. You can enter via the Genting's rest area (bottom of the hill). I have seen many butts along the river banks. Sorry that I can't recall how to get there. But if you ask people over there about the river for picnic and swim, they will know. Best of luck.
