Arhopala epimuta epiala

Common Disc Oakblue

Family: Lycaenidae
Subfamily: Lycaeninae
Genus Arhopala
Species: epimuta
Subspecies: epiala
Common Name: Common Disc Oakblue
Life History: complete
Extant in countries: •Thailand •Malaysia •Singapore
Hostplants:

Description
This Arhopala species resembles the previous species described, Tailed Disc Oakblue (Arhopala atosia malayana), except in lacking a tail. The males are easily recognisable by having a slightly different coloured patch on the forewing disc. The contrast is caused by increased opacity, due to a dense arrangement of the scales which underlie the top layer of blue scales.

Habitat & Habits
Arhopala epimuta epiala is rather common, and can be found in the nature reserves area in the vicinity of the Sime Forest in Singapore. Males are more often encountered and cannot be mistaken for any other of the lookalike Arhopala species due to the very distinctive feature on the forewing cell described above. At times, more than two or three individuals are observed at a single location.
